What’s Cool at Becker: The Equestrian Center

Didn’t think you could make a career out of your love for horses? We’ve got news for you. There are more than 9.2 million horses in the U.S. alone, which means this country needs passionate students like you to propel the industry even further. At Becker College’s Equestrian Center we give students the tools and experience they need to excel in an equine-related career that suits their personality. Here’s how:

Becker College's Equestrian Center

Academic programs. Within our School of Animal Studies, our students can choose a concentration depending on their interests. Want to learn more about equine breeding, nutrition, and behavior? Consider specializing in Equine Studies. Would you rather evaluate a company’s goals, strategies, financial health, and commitment to ethical principles, while still caring for and handling horses? Check out the Equine Management program. Both provide students with marketable skills to be successful in the very diverse equine industry.

Location, location, location! Whether you’re on the Leicester campus or the Worcester campus, the center is just a short drive or shuttle ride to the rural town of Paxton, so you don’t need to travel far to get the out-of-the-classroom experience you want and need. Did we mention, the stable is situated on 30 acres of land and sits right next to beautiful Moore State Park?

Indoor and outdoor arenas. Whether or not you’re interested in joining the 20-member equestrian team (currently ranked fifth place in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1 Region 1), the indoor riding arena, large outdoor ring, and training round pen give our students the best possible spaces for riding and training.

Boarding. Because the Equestrian Center provides boarding and around-the-clock care for each of its resident horses, you’ll learn husbandry, handling, and care first-hand. What better way to spend your free time than with these amazing animals?

Lessons. So, maybe you’re not pursuing a career in Equine Studies or Management. You can still enjoy the facility and all it has to offer! Beginner through advanced-level private and group lessons are available for Becker students and the public.

Now, are you ready to turn your passion into a promising career in an ever-growing industry? Join students like yourself in our School of Animal Studies.
