What’s Cool at Becker: The Crime Scene Lab

Posted by Sandy Lashin-Curewitz | December 16, 2014

Are you the friend who has seen every episode of CSI, and gets a thrill out of trying to piece together the evidence? While your other friends shudder at blood, do you inch up in your seat to get a closer look at the screen? If so, you might want to consider a career in forensics. Becker College not only offers a criminal justice program, but also an on-campus crime scene lab that provides our students with hands-on experience in the field. Here’s how Becker’s John J. Dorsey Sr. Crime Scene Lab can enhance your learning experience.

Practice your passion. Deciding on a major can be stressful. But if you’ve already chosen criminal justice, there’s no better way to test your fit in the field than by making a plaster cast of a shoe print, comparing hair strands under a microscope, detecting fingerprints, or analyzing patterns of blood splatter while you’re learning. (Yes, you read that right. We’re one of the only institutions to offer blood splatter analysis.)

Stay on campus. This state-of-the-art facility, with all of its useful equipment, is available right at your fingertips. You’ll learn how to string together clues and use mapping techniques to figure out who the ‘killer’ is without ever having to leave campus. So not only will you save time and money on travel, but you’ll be solving crimes alongside your classmates. And of course, it’s completely safe.

Real-world experience. If you’ve talked to alumni, or even potential employers, you know how beneficial it is to have hands-on experience under your belt once you reach graduation. At Becker, we’re giving you exactly what you need to have the upper hand in job interviews. Imagine being able to to impress future employers by saying, “I’ve done this.”

So, want to turn your CSI obsession into a career? Start at Becker. You can learn more about our Criminal Justice program right here.
