Know Someone Who Tried College But Didn’t Finish?

Posted by Sandy Lashin-Curewitz | December 27, 2014

Is there someone in your family whose New Year resolution involves earning a college degree? Perhaps they started college and didn’t finish, or entered the workforce right out of high school? If that’s the case, share this post with them. In addition to undergraduate courses for recent high school graduates, Becker offers accelerated studies for adult learners through our Center for Accelerated & Professional Studies. Here’s what makes this adult education program so great.

Options. The Center for Accelerated & Professional Studies currently offers a variety of degrees, including associate, bachelor, and certificate programs. And our degree options cover a bunch of interesting areas, like business (online and on campus), early childhood education, interactive media design, nursing, human resource management, and psychology.

Flexibility. We know that our adult learners have professional and personal demands outside of the classroom, which is why they can choose from accelerated degree programs running 5 weeks, 7 weeks, or 15 weeks in length. Courses are held just one evening per week on campus or online, allowing our adult students to continue working full time while enrolled.

Credit for life experience. Becker places special emphasis on adult learners’ prior work and life experience. Our Portfolio class is an assessment of non-classroom learning through the development of a portfolio, which encompasses life experience and professional training. Students can earn up to 48 credits through the portfolio process, which is developed with the support of an advisor.

Fair assessments. Earning a degree is hard work, and we know coming back to school isn’t always easy. Our adult students can take comfort in knowing that they will be graded on presentation, project, and research skills—not on tough exams.

Financial assistance. We offer financial aid, including grants and scholarships, for those adult students who qualify, making earning a degree that much easier and more attainable.

The number of adult students returning to school is continuing to grow, so we’ve simplified the process—and made it really fun. Want to know more? Check out this blog, where our Dean of Accelerated & Professional Studies tackles all areas of the adult college experience.
