For Parents Only...

Calling all parents who peruse this blog! As much as we enjoy fielding questions from prospective students on campus tours, phone calls, and so on, we find it equally fulfilling and important to answer any and all of your inquiries, too. After all, while it's ultimately up to the student to decide where to enroll in college, your thoughts and considerations play a big role in helping them reach that decision. Plus, we're proud of Becker—and we want you to feel comfortable sending your kids here!

So, in an effort to better connect with you, we compiled a list of questions that parents frequently ask us on those tours and put together our answers below. Hopefully you'll learn something about our school you didn't already know, but if you still have questions, please contact us at any time!

FAQ: Since you have two campuses, how do students get back and forth?

At Becker, we have a free shuttle system that transports students to and from each campus every single day, as well as to the downtown area. The shuttles start at 7 a.m. during the week and end around midnight, with extended weekend times.

FAQ: Can freshmen bring their cars on campus? And if so, how much does it cost and where do they park?

Freshmen are in fact allowed to have cars on campus free of charge. There is daily street parking as well as parking lots reserved for Becker College Students/Faculty/Staff. Students are to get a parking permit from Campus police.

FAQ: Do a lot of your students go home on the weekends?

No, the majority of students tend to stay on campus during weekends. Becker College’s residential population has increased quite a bit over the past few years. This growth has primarily been in the number of students coming from more than three hours driving distance (students come from 27 different states). As such, we are seeing more and more students here on campus on the weekends. Student Activities does a wonderful job of making sure there are plenty of weekend activities whether it is an on-campus event, a trip into Boston or New York for the day, a trip to the movies, athletic events, community services work, and more.

FAQ: How can I support my student in the college search?

It is important for your student to bring energy and enthusiasm as they begin their college search. Allowing them to choose the place that fits them best, with your input, encouragement, and guidance, is the greatest way to help them develop into capable, confident adults. If the college search and/or admissions process is stressful for you, it is doubly so for your child. Encourage some fun family time to keep things in perspective.

FAQ: Do I have to fill out the FAFSA every year?

Yes, the FAFSA is required of all families applying for financial assistance. It is very important that the form be turned in on time—check out the FAFSA online or consult your guidance counselor and finaid.org for more information.

FAQ: What if my son or daughter needs academic assistance?

Most every college student needs help from time to time with an academic challenge. The Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) is dedicated to helping students in all programs of study achieve their academic goals and success. The College has a CLC on each campus and services include individual and group tutoring, study groups, workshops, and academic coaching as well as video tutorials and handouts.

FAQ: How safe is the campus?

Becker College provides a safe and nurturing environment. The Becker College Campus Police Department actively patrols the campuses 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Emergency call boxes are located throughout both campuses.

FAQ: Are the dorms co-ed?

All of our residence halls are mixed gender. Some buildings are single gender by floor. One of the highlights of the Becker College experience is the uniqueness of our residence halls. Students can choose from beautifully restored Victorian homes or more traditional residence-style living arrangements. No matter where your student chooses to live, his or her room will have its own refrigerator, free use of washers and dryers, and other amenities.

FAQ: What are the financial aid packages like?

Becker College offers a wide range of financial assistance to make the dream of an education an affordable reality. Financial aid consists of scholarships, grants, loans, and work study opportunities. The programs vary from merit-based aid to need-based with many awards based on a combination of both factors.
